Operating processes were not practically taken down here with a real brokerage account. Exercises are intended for a demo account.

Before any action, clarify the account model

Didactic example with complete execution of the same symbol. Account restrictions can prohibit opposing positions. Customer account hedging says nothing about whether the broker uses A- or B-book. Consider Broker Hedge Separately

Change, close and delete are different processes

  1. Select account, symbol and specific position or ticket.
  2. In the context menu, open the intended action. Change protection level at an open position; delete open pending order when it is no longer to be triggered.
  3. When closing, check the volume and the offered action. An allowable smaller volume can produce a partial closure; minimum and residual volumes must fit the icon grid.
  4. Control result in current trading view and history. Only then continue to work.
[DEALS5]

In MT5 netting, several strategies on the same symbol affect the same overall position. A manager, EA or copy service can therefore change a manual trading intention. For traceability, use as separate test accounts as possible.

Correctly assign stop loss and take profit

For MT4 Forex, a long position is closed to the bid, a short position to the ask. Therefore, stop and profit levels are checked for both directions on different price series. A broader spread can change the relevant level without a bid candle looking the same.

[ORDERS4]

For other instruments and execution rules, read the specification. A stop level is not a general guarantee for the later execution price. Our control sequence: after each change, re-read the confirmed levels, document the desired level and the timestamp. Do not “force” invalid stops by repeatedly clicking.

Trailing stop: what remains when the terminal is off

The MT4 trailing stop tracks the stop in the client terminal. Without an ongoing connected terminal, no further follow-up is carried out. An already confirmed stop loss level remains on the server side. Turning off the trailing stop mechanism does not automatically delete this last set stop.

[TRAIL4]

For the respective MT5 build, also check the documented terminal function and distinguish it from broker-side special services. For the demo expiration: first observe the fixed stop and its confirmation, then use a trailing setting and track the changes in the journal. Without movement to the required extent, a retracted stop does not have to have arisen.

A demo routine to understand

  1. Record the account and model of the account.
  2. Open a small position matching the test account and note the actual volume.
  3. Change protection level; check confirmation.
  4. Close an allowable part and compare remaining remainder.
  5. Remaining remainder closed in a targeted manner; open pending orders controlled separately.
  6. Tickets, prices, time and costs in one Report secure.

Learning Outcome: You can explain the difference between counterposition and closure and assign each action to its outcome.

MT4: Closing and concretely operating protection levels

Under Terminal → Trade double-click the existing position or open its context menu. For a partial closure in the closing dialog, enter a permissible smaller volume and use the closing action. Don’t confuse the buy/sell for a new order. With “Close by” already existing counter positions of the same symbol are closed with each other; check availability and restrictions.

[CLOSE4]

For Stop Loss or Take Profit “Change or Delete Order” open on the position entry, enter new price levels and confirm change. Then check S/L and T/P in the trade view. Zero values mean missing corresponding protection levels.
